Pouring Vessels

Teapots, coffee pots, pitchers and jugs provide formats that are historic, traditional, and useful. The manner in which these forms occupy, contain, and divide space defines their basic character. The relationship established among the separate combined parts (body, handle, lid, spout) defines visual and physical balance. These issues provide a wonderful means of exploration, expression, and enjoyment for the maker and the user. The decoration, married with the clay in the fire, should unify and clarify the form. These forms should feel balanced and sturdy and of course perform their function well.

Probably the most striking pouring forms I make are the bird pitchers and teapots. Some of these birds have been exhibited internationally and shown in some beautiful books on contemporary ceramics (see favorite books).

Through continuously evolving sculptural and decorative approaches each one displays its own personality and each is completely functional. These bird beaks are excellent pouring spouts.

My pouring vessels range in prices from $20 for a small pitcher to $250 for some of the bird pitchers. For specific information contact John.
